How much does a metal roof cost in Florida?
A standing seam metal roof on a typical 2,000 sq ft Florida home runs about $22,000 to $40,000 installed in 2026 for steel, and up to about $44,000 for aluminum near salt water, based on published Florida cost guides, while cheaper screw-down 5V panels can start near $14,000. Your price depends on panel type, roof size, tear-off, and how close you live to salt water.
Metal is the roof people ask about after a storm or a scary renewal letter. It lasts longer than shingles. It also costs about twice as much, and the insurance break is not a sure thing.
Florida metal roof cost by panel type (2026 published ranges, not a TruShield quote)
| System | Per sq ft installed | ~2,000 sq ft home | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Exposed fastener (5V, R-panel) | $7 to $15 | $14,000 to $24,000 | Collis Roofing, RPS Metal Roofing |
| Standing seam, Galvalume steel | $12 to $20 | $24,000 to $40,000 | Collis Roofing |
| Standing seam, aluminum | $14 to $22 | $28,000 to $44,000 | Collis Roofing |
| Standing seam, Palm Coast (22 squares) | $10 to $18 | $22,000 to $39,500 | FloridaRoofPrice |
Statewide numbers disagree because they measure different things. The Roofing Brief points out that Fixr's lower $6.50 to $13 per sq ft range and full tear-off job costs are not the same scope. Ask what is included.
What moves a Florida metal roof price
- Panel type. Standing seam hides its fasteners under the seam. 5V panels screw through the face and cost less.
- Salt air. Close to the ocean or the Intracoastal, many roofers recommend aluminum over steel. RPS Metal Roofing says steel finish warranties often exclude homes within about 1,500 feet of salt water. In Volusia and Flagler, that means A1A and riverfront streets.
- Tear-off. RPS lists tear-off at about $1.50 to $3.00 per sq ft as a separate line.
- Decking. Rotten sheets get replaced once the old roof is off. Get per-sheet pricing in writing.
- Material prices. The Associated General Contractors reported producer prices for aluminum mill shapes up 33.0% and steel mill products up 20.7% from January 2025 to January 2026. Ask how long your quote's price holds.
If you are within about 1,500 feet of salt water, price aluminum standing seam. Farther inland, Galvalume steel or 5V panels keep the cost down.
Will a metal roof lower my insurance?
Maybe, but do not count on it. A West Palm Beach homeowner told WPTV his premium did not go down after a new metal roof: "it's kind of like a lose-lose." Insurers weigh roof age and how the roof is attached, which shows up on a wind mitigation inspection. Get that inspection report before you choose a roof, so your agent can quote both options on real numbers.
If your home was built before 2008, the state's My Safe Florida Home program offers a free wind mitigation inspection and may help pay for some upgrades. It only covers a full roof replacement when that is needed to install the recommended improvements. Roof age matters too; see our Florida 15-year roof rule FAQ.
Metal vs shingles in plain numbers
In the 2025 Cost vs Value data cited by The Roofing Brief, a standing seam reroof cost 53% to 61% more than an asphalt shingle reroof on the same house across five Florida markets. Metal makes the most sense if you plan to stay long enough for the longer life to pay you back. For shingle and tile numbers, see how much a new roof costs in Florida.

Before you compare metal quotes, get the square count and decking condition documented with photos. We match Volusia and Flagler homeowners with local licensed roofers. Ask for the scope in writing before you compare.
